Babis Kritikos was born in 1948 in Chora, Tinos, of Cyclades. He began his studies in 1961 at the School of Fine Arts of Pirgos (Island of Tinos), where he studied under the guidance of the painter Daniil Daniil and the sculptor Achileas Paraschos.
From 1965 to 1969 he studied sculpture at the Athens Higher School of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Yiannis Papas, Nikos Nikolaou, Nikos Kerlis and Vasilis Vasiliadis.
In 1972, he departed for France where he continued his studies, between 1973 and 1975, at the Ecole Superieuse des Beaux Arts in Paris under the tutelage of the sculptor Cezar and the painter Yankel. He worked at the side of the painter Yiannis Tsarouhis and the Sculptor Morice Lipsi.
He remained in Paris and worked there for many years. During this period, he travelled extensively to the great cultural capitals of Europe and attended major international exhibitions in Italy, England, France, Spain, Germany and Switzerland.
In 1987, he returned to Greece and to his native island of Tinos where he now lives and works.
This inaugurates a ten year period of sculpture with the marble of Tinos, coupled with the final stage of work on an Architectural project, with, to a large extent, was designed and carried out by the artist himself. Hundreds of square meters of stone are carved and built, and interior and exterior spaces art designed for this creative structure which bears the artists’ personal mark in the field of Architecture. This space plays a crucial part in the shaping of the artist’s own work. An exhibition space, open to the public, in which the artist presents a substantial amount of his work.
It was in this space that, on the 7th of September, within the framework of the cultural events organized by the Tinos Civil Authority took place in the first open air audio- visual presentation of his work.
