The constribution of Tinos to the Greek nation for the 150th anniversary
of the finding of the Holy Icon.
Edited
by the Municipality of Tinos
Athens 1972
Indroduction
The prasent historical study
is published due to the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the
finding of the Holy Icon of Virgin Mary. This study is like a double duty
of offering for me, that is, a general duty of an intellectual man to
his country and a more specific one to his homeland, the holy island of
Tinos.
The history and civilisation of my birthplace have been the object and
the specific interest of my study since my youth. The historical research
have been the fruits of this interest. The present study is divided into
two parts. The first part contains the history of the era of the Greek
Revolution, which is preceded by a historical introduction rertinent to
the years before the Greek Revolution and the life and work of the Tinians
who belonged to the society of friends. In the second part many documents
of that era are registered, in which the reader is referred to in order
to form a more complete view of the historical period and in order to
communicate directly with the sources of that era.
The present study brings to light many unknown elements to those who have
been occupied with the history of Tinos up to now. In this way a historical
era of our country is illuminated and the great constribution of Tinos
to the fight of our nation is proved.
At the end of the book a bibliography of jources and reference books is
cited which we were able to use during writing.
Due to my position I express my deep act kmow-legements to the honourable
members of the city council for the great initiative to publish this historical
study with the expences of the municipality. I wish that this act will
be the first of a series of similar acts.
Tinos, October 1st, 1971.

Indroduction
The “Tinian Aspects” which
are already published constitute a series of studies of Tinos. As the
title denotes, each study presents an aspect of our island and all
of them outline, compose and present a part of the spiritual and cultural
wealth of Tinos.
It is our duty not to forget our origins and our history in general
so as to with stand the cosmogonic changes that happen around us. Therefore,
having this duty as a keystone and my love for “our” Tinos
as a motive combined with the affection of the administrative council
of the brotherhood of Tinians in Athens, which I personally give thanks
to for the expences of the publication, we now offer on elegant edition
of the “Tinian Aspects” to our compatriots and friends of
Tinos.

The second finding (of the holy icon)
Summary
On December 13th
1842, Christodoulos Dimitriadis from Smirni, stole the holy icon. He
transferred it to the
village “Ysternia” and he buried it there. Then he took the
jeulery and the votive offerings of the icon with him and he went to the
west part of the island in order to escape. However, he did not manage
– fortunately – to do it. He was arrested by the police. He
confessed the theft and he indicated the point where he had buried the
holy icon. The icon was found on December 18th 1842 and was transported
with full honours – accompanied by the people of Tinos – to
its holy church. The local history recorded this fact as the second finding
of the holy icon.
This book contains : a) historical testimonies for this very important
fact and b) an unpublished verse manuscript which refers to the profane
theft of the holy icon of the Bleesed Virgin of Tinos in 1842. It consists
of 422 verses of fifteen syllables.

Sacret Institution of Evagelistria of Tinos
Brotherhood of Tinians in Athens
Athens 1996
Introduction
The motive for my
natire land, “our” Tinos, where I first saw the sunlight,
has been and still is my deep love for its history and civilization
in general, and
my knowledge of this place since my youth.
Porablel to my main work, the effort to educate and train our youth for
more than 35 years, was my occupation with the civilization of our home – land.
The fruit of this conscientions effort which lasted for more than 40 years
was the collection and study of a matter which, in a way, contributes
positively to the cultural research on Tinos.
The title of this book is “Tinian Reflections”. The word “reflection”
stands for the word “antaugia” in the greek language. “Antaugia”
comes from the word “augi” = dawn = daybreak = the first rays
of the sun and the preposition “anti”. “Anti”
and “augi” form the verb “antaugazo” = reflect
= shine and finally the word “antaugies” = reflections which
have here two meanings.
1. They reflect and “shine” the cultural elements of our
country in general.
2. They especially constitute reflections and “glowings” of
the spiritual and cultural wealth of Tinos since most of the studies
of
the book have been republished.
I express my deep gratitude to the admistrative committee of the Panhellenic
Sacret Institution of Evagelistria of Tinos for the provision of the publication
which is a great honour to me and it expresses its deep love.
I also express my innumerable thanks to the administrative council of
the Brotherhood of Tinians in Athens which always shows its love with
actions and now it did not count the expenses for the publication of my
book.
I also thank from the bottom of my heart my colleague, compatriot and
eminent scientist, Dimitrios Z. Sofianos, director of the Research Centre
of the Medieval and Modern Hellenism of the Academy of Athens, for his
valuable constribution to the publication of this book.
In conclusion, I wish God and Virgin Mary offer their divine guidance
to our country and the whole world so that people, free from evil, accupy
themselves with peaceful, creative and pious works.

Tinian Presences
History – Folklore
Athens 2000 a.d
Introduction
This book completes the trilogy
which cinsists of the books : a) Tinian Aspects, b) Tinian Reflections
and c) Tinian Presences. These books compose a series of independent studies
which refer to Tinos.
The book’s title is “Tinian Presences”. The word “presence” is
nowadays used to denote the participation of a specific individual or
a number of people in a special place of work or gatherings that is,
his or their presences there.
This, “presence” looks like an arrow which rams the endless
flow of time.
